A MOTOR vehicle accident along the Winston Jones Highway on Thursday claimed the life of Julian Sterling, an employee of Charles Off Betting Limited at Race Course in Mandeville, Manchester.
According to the Williamsfield Police, Miss Sterling was driving her grey Nissan Sunny GT motorcar along the Winston Jones Highway, toward Mandeville at about 6:00 p.m., when she attempted to overtake a line of traffic going uphill on the wet road.
It was reported that she was unable to overtake the line and applied her brakes in an attempt to get back in line with the other vehicles but her motorcar got out of control and spun, crashing into a white truck which was travelling toward Williamsfield, laden with stones.
The motor car was pushed by the truck some 40 metres from where it was hit. During the process, one of the front wheels was severed and the engine and gearbox were dismantled while the body of the car was extensively damaged.
The truck was also damaged, but its occupants were not seriously hurt.
Miss Sterling was taken from the vehicle by passing motorists and was transported to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
