'Losing in the fourth quarter'
published: Saturday | November 22, 2003

THE EDITOR Sir,

ON SUNDAY past I listened to what I considered to be a very interesting sermon titled, 'Losing in the fourth quarter'. The preacher used the imagery of basketball and teams like the New York Knicks who play well even leading in the scores up to the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter they lose focus, they begin to fumble the ball, miss passes, squander good scoring opportunities and as a result not only do they lose the game, they lose the whole series.

He used as his scriptural examples, Hezekiah and Gideon.

Such is the predicament of Mr. Edward Seaga, a great politician of no mean order, a man who has played well into the third quarter of his political life. Now in the fourth quarter of his game, he is making all kinds of mistakes, he is losing focus, he is missing some really great scoring opportunities, and both he and his team, the JLP, are losing badly. Is there a coach out there who can help Mr. Seaga? His wife, maybe?

I am, etc.,
