On the operations in Canterbury
published: Saturday | November 22, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN THE early morning of Wednesday, October 15, 2003 the police carried out an operation in Canterbury, Montego Bay, St. James. During this operation three alleged gunmen were shot and killed and a number of arms and ammunition recovered. Three policemen were also injured.

It is evident that the police exercised a high level of restraint in their fire power, outside of which several innocent persons would be injured or killed.

The question is, however, if this was a Kingston inner city community, would the police exercise this level of restraint?

It is good that the police have learnt from past experience, and if this is a sign of how the police will operate in the future, it is indeed welcomed by all members of the society.

I am, etc.,

C. GORDON

Gregory Park P.O.

St. Catherine
