TURN THE corner by the poolside at Glen Abbey Town House and the sight and sounds of women chatting gaily greeted you. It could easily have been just a group of women coming together to gossip and where you don't do anything but get out of the house. Not the case.
The International Proxy Parents (IPP) continued their drive to help children through their various fund-raising events. This time it was their 11th Annual Games Morning which took centre stage and the ladies as usual supported in their full complement.
When we arrived, the ladies were too busy trying to negotiate through their games of mah jong (Chinese dominoes), kalookie, bridge and the ever popular bingo to notice us.
FRIENDLY MATCHES OF INTELLIGENCE
All these games were on the menu as the ladies, both from the business sector and the diplomatic corps, challenged each other in friendly matches of intelligence. The bingo was especially exciting as the shout of 'bingo' would ring out across the terrace on occasion.
Add to the light atmosphere, the excellent and exotic food prepared by members from their own kitchens and you had a day well spent. There was a certain international flavour to the cuisine, including Indian, Italian and good, ol' Jamaican favourites. Creamy and delicious iced coffee, provided by Jamaica Coffee Mills, cooled the ladies down on a toasty Friday afternoon. I'm sure they would have paid top dollar for a sip if they were asked to; it was that good! As with any IPP event, there were prizes and silent auctions, things donated by the members and affiliated companies and well-wishers.
This is the 11th staging of the games morning for the 19-year-old organisation. The next big event is their bazaar which usually sees booths set up by various countries represented.
