JCA pledge full support for Griffith
published: Tuesday | October 7, 2003

By Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

JAMAICA CRICKET Association (JCA) chief, Jackie Hendriks, says he will give full support to newly elected president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Teddy Griffith, despite the fact that he did not endorse his candidacy.

"I will certainly pledge Jamaica's full co-operation with Teddy," Hendriks told The Gleaner in an interview with The Gleaner yesterday.

The JCA had nominated Antiguan Clarvis Joseph, who had served as vice-president to Jamaican Pat Rousseau.

Griffth was unanimously elected 9-4 and Hendriks said: "I think both gentlemen were eminently suitable and since Griffith came out on top, I certainly pledge him my full support.

"I don't think that there is enmity or any hard feelings. Teddy and I have been friends for 40-50 years. I don't think we have any axe to grind against each other. As I said before, we had a nice little chat after the event (election).

"He (Griffith) has assured me that we will proceed as normal. I don't think there should be any enmities, or otherwise," the JCA chief re-iterated.

"He has worked for the Board for many, many years, he has done an excellent job as chairman of marketing, I certainly have every confidence that he will do a very good job," the JCA top man said.

Hendriks, who is also a WICB director, also pointed out that the decision to go against Griffith was not solely his.

He said: "It wasn't me, it was a decision by the JCA."
