Trevor Riley named SAJ's general manager
published: Tuesday | October 7, 2003

TREVOR RILEY has been appointed general manager of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ).

Mr. Riley took up office on October 1, and is expected to continue with the implementation of the SAJ's strategic business development plan towards becoming a high-performance service organisation of national impact.

PREVIOUS WORK

The new general manager is by no means a new kid on the shipping block, as in the late 1980s, he did a stint as public relations officer at the association and was instrumental in formulating the association's public relations policy and programmes.

A former managing director of the Observer, Mr. Riley, who had early beginnings in journalism, has been responsible for marketing Jamaica and the region as general manager at Air Jamaica Limited, and was also deputy director of tourism. He also held the position of general manager at Victoria Mutual Finance Limited's United Kingdom subsidiary and the representative office of Victoria Mutual Building Society. He also led the public relations and advertisement team at Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) as manager of the PR and Advertising Department and was the senior marketing executive at JAMPRO's London office Jamaica Trade Commission.

He read for his MBA at the Kingston University, Surrey, England and is also a graduate of the International Institute for Journalism in Germany, and the University of the West Indies. He also completed courses at New York University and the Commonwealth Press Union.

Mr. Riley is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Jamaica Golf Association. He lectures part-time at the University of Technology (UTech).
