THE EDITOR, Sir:
TWO YEARS ago, I met a Jamaican lady on-line and after corresponding for seven months, I visited her in Jamaica. We got married a year ago.
I have always been interested in Jamaica and its culture. Recently, I read Ms Dawn Ritch's article where she said she was not black and wrote disparagingly about black people.
I am writing to let her know that I am a white man and she should be proud of who she is. Shouting and writing that she is not black will not make her white or non-black. There is a misconception among some white racists that blacks want to be white and I was so pleased to see black people in Jamaica being proud of who they are.
It is a shame that Ms. Ritch has the platform of the press to try to deny who she is when youngsters will be influenced by her. Ms. Ritch, the whole world is laughing at you. We all know when a person is black or white. You should be proud of who you are.
If you are still confused about your race, you should take a trip to Switzerland and ask anyone in the street. They will put your mind at ease. Fortunately, not all black women are like you. So beautiful women in Jamaica, continue to be who you are. Don't let one unblack person spoil your pride.
I am, etc.,
