A total waste of money
published: Tuesday | October 7, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WAS surprised to read the results of your poll on the Emancipation Park statues and wonder who was questioned by the pollster.

Are Don Anderson's informers Jamaican taxpayers? I certainly was not asked for my opinion, and I am outraged by the extravagant public expenditure on this meaningless monument.

Four point five million dollars for two naked effigies might not sound as dramatic as the billions of dollars that we now have to pay the National Transport Co-operative Society, but it is part of the chronic waste of public funds that has helped to bring us to fiscal crisis. We must hold our administrators accountable for every cent that they flush down the drain.

I am, etc.,

JOYLENE MORRIS
