WORLD NUMBER one 400m runner Michael Blackwood will be among five Jamaicans taking part in today's Norwich Union London Super Grand Prix meet.
With the World Championships in Paris just over two weeks away, the Jamaican contingent also includes Ian Weakley, Aleen Bailey, Beverley McDonald and Lorraine Fenton, the final event of the Super Grand Prix Series.
Many of the events will be previews for the World Championships - the men's 400m, for example, in which national champion Blackwood will take part, includes the likes of world champion Arvard Moncur of the Bahamas and the fastest man in the world this year, the US's Tyree Washington.
The event will also have the likes of Britain's former World Indoor champion Daniel Caines, the US's Jerome Young, while others like Du'aine Ladejo and Ian Mackie will be seeking the qualifying time of 45.55 before heading off to Paris.
National sprint double champion Bailey and McDonald will face a strong field which includes Ukraine's world champion Zhanna Pintussevich-Block, who is hoping to rebound from her 11.34 fourth-place finish at the DN Dalan in Sweden three day ago in the women's 100m.
The field also includes the American trio of Kelli White, Chryste Gaines and Torri Edwards. Add to that double Commonwealth sprint champion Debbie Ferguson of the Bahamas and former European champion Christine Arron of France and the dash should be hot.
In the men's 400m hurdles, Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Weakley will be up against Commonwealth Games winner Chris Rawlinson of Great Britain, last year's second place finisher James Carter and Joey Woody of the US.
The fifth Jamaican, Fenton, the 2001 silver medallist in Edmonton will contest the women's 400m and is expected to face strong competition from CAC silver medallist Tonique Williams of Bahamas, Demetria Washington of the US and Lee McConnell of Scotland.
