THREE PEOPLE were killed and three others injured in a four-vehicle collision on the Old Harbour bypass near the Clarendon/St. Catherine border Wednesday night.

One of those killed has been identified by the police as Emanuel Bryan, 43, of Raymonds district, Clarendon. The others remain unidentified.

The police also report that two other motor vehicle accidents occurred on Wednesday, another one on the Old Harbour bypass in the morning and one in St. Ann. There were no resulting fatalities.

Police reports are that the fatal accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. and involved a Ford truck, two Toyota motor cars and a Nissan Sunny. The driver of one of the cars, which was heading towards Kingston, reportedly overtook the truck and collided into the other car which was travelling in the opposite direction.

A policeman from the Old Harbour Police Station said the car was pushed backwards into the truck on impact. The Nissan Sunny, which was travelling behind the truck, collided into the rear.

The police said the driver of the motor car travelling towards May Pen died on the spot while two people in the car travelling towards Kingston were pronounced dead at the May Pen Hospital.

Three other persons injured in the accident were taken to the hospital where they were admitted.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), six persons have died from three accidents since Sunday.

Since the start of the year, 202 persons have died from 183 accidents. However, this is lower than the 229 fatalities from 209 accidents for the same period last year.
