Improve road safety for our children

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WHEN OUR gullies claim lives there is a hue and cry about building proper bridges but soon they are forgotten until another person drowns. However, when our children are hit down by careless drivers, will we be satisfied to know that these drivers will be punished by the law? Or do we do something to prevent this unwanted carnage on our roads.
I want to suggest that in the vicinity of the schools there should be a sign "School Zone." Next to it, should be constructed bumps not sleeping policemen but larger elevated levels making the motorist drive slowly in the vicinity. That too should be adequately signed, "SlowBump ahead."
This should be implemented as quickly as possible, so that less harm and death will come to our nation's children.
