To the children of Jamaica: 'well done'
published: Sunday | June 29, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CONGRATULATIONS TO all of the students who sat the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT). It is wonderful to see so many students being awarded with scholarships from both the Government and private sector companies.

Again, I congratulate these students, and I commend all who passed the examination. You are all achievers!

You are an inspiration to all of us, especially those who will sit the exam in the future.

To the teachers, parents, staff members and all who were involved in helping these students to advance to the next level, I congratulate you on a job well done. Our involvement in our children's lives impacts directly on their performance. We must instil in them the value of hard work. It is through hard work that dreams are realised, and leaders are born.

Parents, I urge all of you whose children will be entering high school, to go to the school in which your child was placed and gather all of the information concerning orientation and any other important matters that you will have to attend.

Also, please inquire within your child's school about the PATH Programme (Poverty Alleviation Through Health & Education), and how to obtain the necessary application form if you wish to apply.

Students, as you embark on your educational journey to the secondary level, remember that it will not be an easy one. However, with hard work, dedication and the right attitude, you will overcome any challenge that you may face. I wish you all the joy and success that life brings.

I am, etc.,

MAXINE HENRY-WILSON, MP

Minister of Education, Youth & Culture
