Congrats, Councillor Rupert Kelly
published: Sunday | June 29, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON BEHALF of a few independent land owners in Clifton Hill and Shirley Castle, Portland, I would like to extend hearty congratulations to Mr. Rupert Kelly, the JLP Councillor for the Hope Bay division.

My colleagues and I came to know Mr. Kelly in June 2002 when he approached us about sponsoring a "Back to School treat" for the children of Claverty Cottage and Clifton Hill. Though Claverty Cottage had historically been a PNP area, Mr. Kelly recognised this area as being one of those in most desperate need of attention.

Without consideration of the party affiliations of their parents, Mr. Kelly and the JLP constituency caretaker, Mr. Ken Rowe, successfully organised the treat for the area in August 2002. As part of the festivities, every single child attending school in the two districts was able to receive a package for back to school; the two youth clubs also received footballs and gears.

I am, etc.,

A. JOHNSON

Clifton Hill, Portland
