THE INTER Secondary School Sports Association (ISSA) is bracing itself to pay the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) for damages to the stadium facilities during last week's VMBS/ISSSA Boys and Girls Championships.
According to ISSA president Clement Radcliffe, no demand has yet been made by the UDC, but they are anticipating that one will come.
"We have not received anything from them as yet, but if there is any damage, we will have to pay more than the original fee," said Radcliffe yesterday. "It is a part of the contractual arrangement that ISSA pays for any damage to the stadium."
Doreen O'Connor, Corporate communications officer at the UDC, confirmed that there was damage to some seats and that a section of the wall was defaced. She was unable, however, to put a dollar figure on the damage or to say whether or not ISSA will have to pay more.
ISSA had paid out approximately 3.3 million dollars for the use of the stadium for the four days of the championships - $750,000 per day for the National Stadium and $75,000 per day for the east field - and that did not include the cost of the lights and cleaning.
At a hastily convened press conference at the Stadium last Friday - the penultimate day of the meet, Radcliffe told reporters that the damage done to the facilities were limited to bathroom fixtures, defacing of the walls with graffiti, and handrails in the grand stand.
