Pauline Gray MANY TRIBUTES were paid yesterday by organisations within the private sector as well as by Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, Phillip Paulwell, to the life of Pauline Gray, General Manager of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) who died on Saturday.
The Jamaica Manufacturers' Association (JMA), the Public Relations Society of Jamaica (PRSJ) and the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU), also expressed their condolences to her family, colleagues and friends, as they remembered Mrs. Gray for what the BITU called, her "enviable track record of skill, dynamism and proactive leadership".
Mrs. Gray and Lawson Calderon, President of the St. Lucia Manufacturers' Association were killed on Saturday when her Honda Civic motor car was swept away by powerful currents in the overflowing Cassia Park Gully, St. Andrew.
Mr. Paulwell lauded her for sharing "the vision that globalisation provided a challenge and an opportunity to grow our economy through the quality of our output as well as our ability to capture niche markets".
The JMA, calling the tragic events of the past weekend a double blow to the local, regional and international manufacturing and business communities, also expressed sadness at the death of Mr. Calderon.
"The Caribbean community and in particular its manufacturing sector has lost a great son with the passing of President Calderon," the Association said.
