The passing of a giant
published: Tuesday | April 8, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

A GIANT has passed: I was saddened to learn of the passing of the Rev. Dr. Cleve Grant. Truly Rev Grant's influence was very strong and positive. Dr. Grant's influence in the Church of God in Jamaica and the Caribbean was legendary. He was amongst the first pioneers of the Caribbean Atlantic Assembly of the Church of God. Dr. Grant was the always indefatigable chaplain when I attended Ardenne High School; yet he was the always humble and giving pastor. His influence in Jamaica could be seen in his involvement with the National Crusade Committee, the Jamaica Council of Churches, the Jamaica Association of Evangelicals, the National Prayer Breakfast Committee, the Kingston Keswick Convention, to name a few.

Dr. Grant was not a man to aspire to wealth and fame, he did not have a big ego yet in his humility God lifted him up. So now the noon day meditation must live on under another mantle. I hope that RJR and the church in Jamaica will build something in his honour. A true States Man and a God man has left us. He lives. Shalom.

I am, etc.,
