Good job, Mel
published: Tuesday | April 8, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I ASK of you to publish my commendation and applause in your paper for Mr. Melville Cooke. I have read a few letters from people bashing him for his insight on the war. It is clear that Mr. Cooke is extremely realistic. Sometimes to be real, one tends to inadvertently affect people who would rather dodge concrete conceptual views. He mixes humour with his disdain for the war. All he is trying to say is that, if many people do not begin to feel the loss and hurt on an individual basis, they will not see how devastating this war is or will be in the long run.

Mr. Cooke pens his articles with precision, many authors are not as straightforward in their opinions and therefore find it mind-boggling. The average reader with an analytical mind can easily see that Mr. Cooke does not see the war as 'joke' or is 'wishing for anybody's death'. He is simply saying 'wake-up' when will the majority see that this war has the possibility of toppling the positive essence of globalisation? Pondering the thought that a lengthy war seems like the only thing which will bring about the reality for many.

Maybe the US will move onwards to pursue continued attack on weaker nations, causing more havoc. People, let's open our minds do not be hasty to criticise unless you have thoroughly analysed. Mr. Cooke may not word his articles in the manner someone else would, that's his mark of individuality. What he has that many should have or will long to have is a grasp of reality and the fortitude to say what he thinks.

I am etc.,

R.P ASHTON
