Strive for peace

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I READ with interest the letter about 'Ungrateful Jamaicans' in the April 5th edition of your paper and felt compelled to give my opinion. My question to all who are silent on the issue of the on-going war between the US-led coalition and Iraq is, "if deep in your heart you know the war is for all the wrong reasons, should you keep silent so that you may get some crumbs off the superpower's table? "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?"
As Christians we ask God's forgiveness for the things we do and for the things we leave undone. Are we going to be good Samaritans or are we going to pass on the other side of the road? I do not see why if you disagree with the Bush's War Agenda you should be chastised. Jesus died for the whole world, the world did not die for Jesus. If Bush has a problem with Saddam Hussein and he is the target, why should so many innocent people on both sides suffer and die?
Somehow the logic escapes me. I am definitely Pro-US but still do not understand why there is a need for war. To me the issue is whether or not the war is justified, is it blood for oil? Thank God the First Amendment is still recognised in the US or I would not be sending this e-mail, I would be terrified, but I still believe that we should strive for peace on planet earth and we should always start on an individual basis.
"Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me". God Bless America, God Bless Jamaica and may freedom ring all over the earth.
