THE EDITOR, Sir:IT SEEMS to me that everyone is giving their two cents worth of opinion on the war in Iraq, so here is mine. I think that George Bush is a psychopath and should be tried for crimes against humanity. How dare he invade another man's country, ignoring all international laws, for his own selfish reasons.
Apparently some people are not aware of what the President of the United States has done, and this really upsets me. While I understand that Americans will try to support their president and remain patriotic to their country, I fail to understand how Jamaicans like Jerome Henry from Buff Bay in Portland can support America's so-called "shock and awe" campaign. (Jerome Henry's letter was published in the Thursday Gleaner on March 27, 2003) Mr. Henry, you need to get your head right and understand the implications of this war on the Iraqi people and on this world in which we live.
George Bush does not care about the welfare of the people of the world. If he truly cared about helping starving Iraqis he would use that 70-plus billions of dollars to offer aid to Iraq and thousands, no, millions of other starving people around the world (including America).
This war is not about what America can do for Iraq, it is about how Iraq's oil can make life better for Americans. The motives of Mr. Bush are as clear as the blue skies over Kingston on this beautiful March day. Don't forget, Mr. Henry, in all your rambling about America's success benefiting Jamaica, that Iraqi children woke up this morning to black skies and a bleak future. Mr. Bush referred to his conquering of Iraq, when the day comes, as a "victory'. How can the murder of thousands of people be called a victory? He is treating war as if it is a game. IT IS NO GAME.
It has never been and still is not America's responsibility to "police" the world. Once again, George and America have failed and Tony has been suckered.
I am, etc.,
