Soldiers, Kingston advance

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Jamaica Defence Force and Kingston became the first semi-finalists of the Capital and Credit Merchant Bank sponsored All-Island limited-over cricket competition following fifth round victories yesterday.

JDF crushed St. James by 134 runs in their Zone A top-of-the-table clash at Up Park Camp while Kingston made light work of Hanover, beating them by 195 runs at Sabina Park.

Meanwhile, former national player Wayne Cuff, Orville Pennant and Matthew Sinclair were the standout players.

Cuff struck 10 fours and four sixes in his unbeaten 140, which came off 133 deliveries in 150 minutes. Pennant was more brutal, slamming 107 off just 85 balls. The right-handed Pennant hit six sixes and eight fours in his 107 minutes stay at the crease, while Sinclair claimed seven dismissals behind the stumps.

AT UP PARK CAMP: JDF 279 for five off 50 overs (Wayne Cuff 140 not out, Mel Wint 46) beat St. James 145 off 35.2 overs (Dwight Washington 45 not out, Nicarlo McFarlane 37; Acey Saunds 5-40) by 134 runs.

AT SABINA PARK: Kingston 315 off 49.5 overs (Nehemiah Perry 70, Raymond Ferguson 59, Lloyd Black 36; Steve Moodie 2-52) beat Hanover 120 off 32.4 overs (Moodie 26; Andrew Richardson 3-32, Sadique Phillips 3-14, Perry 2-17) by 195 runs.

AT ELLETSON ROAD: Manchester 263 off 48.5 overs (Orville Pennant 107, Chacon Chambers 46; Everton Tabannah 3-39, Neil Moore 2-36) beat Police 176 off 34.3 (Dwayne Crossgill 51; Uriel Samuels 3-26, Ziggy Levy 3-18, Pennant 2-35) by 87 runs.

AT NELSON OVAL: St. Catherine CC 228 for eight off 50 overs (Danza Hyatt 59 not out, Tamar Lambert 58; Ashuman Kentish 5-40) beat Lucas 171 off 44.5 overs (Ryan Smith 46; Lambert 3-25, Dean Morgan 2-24) by 157 runs.

AT ALPART: St. Elizabeth 82 off 28 overs (Courtney Nembhard 26 not out; Allen Reid 5-14, Krishmar Santokie 2-23, Dwight Stewart 2-18) lost to Clarendon 83 for five in 29 overs (Barrington Brown 16; Ainsley Goss 3-19) by five wickets.

AT FOLLY OVAL: Portland 150 off 44 overs (Harlon Haye 28; Dervin Morand 3-32, Tyson Gordon 2-8) beat St. Mary 140 off 42 overs (Morand 33, Hensley Wilshaw 31 not out; Garnet Whyte 3-21, Haye 3-50) by 11 runs.

AT MAXFIELD PARK: Boys' Town 339 for seven off 50 overs (Troy Powell 80, Julian Cresser 53, Shane Powell 42, Marlon Keating 39; Godfrey Lewis 2-35) beat Trelawny 217 all out (Carl Johnson 28; Phillip Keating 4-48, Dave Ledgister 3-59) by 122 runs.

AT MELBOURNE OVAL: Kensington 247 for eight off 50 overs (Samuel Douglas 45, Maurice Kepple 41, Laurie Williams 40; Roman Hutchinson 4-26, Shacurie Wilson 2-62) lost to Melbourne 249 for five 39.4 overs (Ray Stewart 50, Robert Samuels 59, Jason Williams 40 not out; Howard Powell two wickets) by five wickets.
