The Editor, Sir:IN MY final year at high school I struggled to get good grades in English Language and it wasn't until I started reading columns in The Sunday Gleaner that my performance improved. I found columns written by the late Morris Cargill to be the most fascinating.
He had a way with words that made each column refreshing and captivating. Even without his name attached I could recognise one of his pieces due to his unique style. I used to sit with my dictionary no further than an arms length to ensure than I did not misinterpret what he was saying. His work was simple yet sophisticated and I attribute my success in English Language and other studies to Mr. Cargill.
Over the years that I read Mr. Cargill's columns I always felt that he was objective and fair. This is the narrow path I feel our journalists in Jamaica should take. Most people acknowledge his greatness, so why not adopt some of his qualities.
