Lara's mom dies at 69

PORT OF SPAIN - Pearl Lara, mother of world batting recorder holder Brian Lara, died yesterday, a relative said.

Mrs Lara, 69, died at the home of another son, Lyndon. A diabetic, she suffered a stroke last October from which she never recovered.

Both she and her husband, Bunty, are credited with playing a major role in Brian's development and passion for cricket.

His father died about ten years ago.

Lara who is injured was ruled out of selection on the West Indies team which left Friday for Sharjah where they are scheduled to pay two Tests and three

One-Day Internationals.
