Where were the fireworks?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON THE night of December 31, 2001 I realised and confirmed the level of disrespect that has been meted out to the Jamaican people.

I went down to the ocean front at Kingston Harbour to observe what I thought would have been a wonderful fireworks display at midnight and an organised entertainment package.

On reaching Ocean Boulevard I realised that there wasn't anything planned as I saw over 2000 people there milling around not sure what to expect. And not a policeman in sight!

My concern though is the fact that if this event which is normally held annually is cancelled, wouldn't it have been proper for the relevant authorities to inform the public?

As usual though the poor man who could not afford the balls at Hilton and Le Meridien was short-changed. Maybe it was just an 'honest mistake'.

I am etc.,
