SO YOU live in western Jamaica and you don't know where to take the family this holiday season. You've done the beach, you've invaded Dunn's River, and you are not in the mood to go to the races.

Don't sweat it. There are several attractions which offer good, clean fun for the entire family.

The Royal Palm Reserve is a beautiful forest located within the Negril Great Morass. It is the ideal location for a day tour, nature walks, bird watching and
relaxation.

The Reserve is home to 119 species of plants and more than 300 animal species. The plants include shrubs, herbs, climbers, grass and fern. There are 52 species of birds, as well as insects, and reptiles.

Entry fee is $200 for adults and $100 for children. See Jamaican wildlife in the natural swamp forest on the guided tour along the boardwalk trail. Then stop at the lake-side restaurant and bar, and enjoy delicious meals and juices.

The Reserve is located in Negril, Westmoreland.

The Roaring River Park and Cave is located in Petersfield, Westmoreland. Explore the ancient cave, and take a bath while you are at it. A section of the cave where the river runs through it, is said to have natural healing powers.

The attraction is open Mondays to Thursdays 8:30-5:00 and 8:30-4:00 on weekends and public holidays. A fee of $250 per person entitles you to a guided tour of the cave and entry to the park. A restaurant and bar are also located amid the breathtaking landscape.
Take the kids to a special Family Pool Fiesta at Cashoo Ostrich Park in Lacovia, St. Elizabeth on Boxing Day. Enjoy a boat ride up the Black River, horseback riding, fashion show, karaoke, and much more at a cost of $250 for adults and $150 for
children.

The facility also features a herbal garden, water buffaloes, and of course ostriches. Take a swim in the pool or relax by the river.

At Little Ochie in Alligator Pond, St. Elizabeth, patrons can go fishing in the river, and have their catch cooked on spot. Take your fish and have a picnic on the beach, or grab a meal at the restaurant. There is no entry fee, and the facility will be opened on both Christmas and Boxing Day.

Mayfield Falls is a tranquil waterfall located in Glenbrook, Hanover. The attraction will be open to the public on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

A fee of $600 per person entitles visitors to a guided tour of the falls and a picnic lunch. Entry fee is $200 per person.

Drive to the border of Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth for some delicious fried fish and bammy. Be sure to stop at Middle Quarters for some peppered shrimp.

Take the kids to see some fine art and sculptures at the Gallery Hoffstead II located on the Vendors Plaza, West End Road in Negril. It will be opened throughout the
holidays except Sundays.
