NATIONAL MIDFIELDER Winston Griffiths will be out of football for a month.
The former Glenmuir High school daCosta Cup player was in hospital for two nights last week after being reportedly brutalised in an A League football match against Seba United at Jarrett Park. Yesterday, Dr Glenton Smith, team doctor with the national team told The Gleaner Griffiths was advised to take a month off from the game.
"We have given him a month off from all local appointments in terms of football," Dr Smith said yesterday.
"I got all his reports this morning from Cornwall Regional Hospital. Yesterday we had him do a CT (Cerebral Tomogragh) scan. This is basically a brain scan and it came back normal," said Smith.
A number of other studies, Dr Smith said, were done and all came back normal but the player will still have to sit out a month.
"Even though the scan came back normal we will not be taking any chances with his health," Dr Smith said.
"This is standard procedure. Any athlete who has received cerebral trauma is usually taken out of the sport for a while," he said.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) disciplinary committee was scheduled to meet last night to rule on possible action to be taken arising from the incident.
The head of the JFF disciplinary committee, David Watt, was said to be present at the match and saw the assault on the player.
Griffiths and Rivoli coach Harold Thomas were also scheduled to attend that meeting.
