Bus driver dies, four others injured in crash

WESTERN BUREAU:

A BUS driver, who plies the Savanna-la-Mar to Montego Bay route, succumbed to injuries he received in a motor vehicle accident yesterday morning.

Owen Johns, popularly known as 'Bruk Up' 27, of Baulk, Friendship district, Westmoreland died in the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, while undergoing treatment. Four other persons sustained multiple injuries and have been admitted to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital in stable condition.

Police reports are that at about 6:45 yesterday morning, a blue Toyota Hiace minibus being driven by Johns collided with a white International truck along the Barham main road in Westmoreland.

The bus, which was travelling towards Savanna-la-Mar, was negotiating a corner and crashed into the truck which was going in the opposite direction.

Johns, and his passengers, 14-year-old student Jeffrey Williams, 13-year-old student Croyita Leslie, Franklyn Ram-sey, a porter, 37, and Delroy Russell, 32 all of Red Hills addresses in Westmoreland were rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital. Johns was later transferred to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The driver of the truck, Stephen England, 27, of Dalling Street in Savanna-la-Mar, escaped injury.
