Record year for scholarships

Students of Versan Educational Services, who gained scholarships and were accepted for United States, Canadian and European schools, colleges and universities, pose for the camera during a seminar on Saturday, April 21. The seminar was held to brief them on enrolment and immigration procedures and was held at Versan's offices, Balmoral Avenue in Kingston.

VERSAN EDUCATIONAL Services saw a record number of scholarships achieved by students in 2000! The Director, Sandra Bramwell, says "We had a spectacular year on three levels those going off to private boarding schools, those going for their first degrees and those going for their graduate degrees. Most were accepted and received scholarship offers! The students made it to all the Ivy League institutions as well as the top liberal arts colleges... the graduates also enjoyed their own successes, going on to do their Phd's MBA's and post-graduate studies at noteworthy institutions such as Stanford, Columbia, NYU, George Washington, University of Delware, et al... a record year!"

Versan has continued to maintain its 85 per cent success rate, a rate that has continued to grow over the years for those going off to private boarding schools, 60 students sat that exam (SSAT), 47 were successful. Of the 300 that sat the SAT, (the list is not yet complete) but some 213 have gained admission from a class of 300. For the graduate students who attended over the year, 60 students, so far, 40 have gained admission. For graduate students, it is always difficult to obtain funding, but this year, quite a number received fellowship and financial aid.

Versan officially opened new centres at Ferncourt, Mt. Alvernia and in St. Lucia since 2000. Versan continues to work with students at Charlemont. Other schools are slated to begin in September.

Versan has been offering preparation classes for the SAT, SSAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT and MCAT for the past six years. Versan also offers counselling and guidance with school selections, immigration procedures, financial aid applications, essay-writing for college applications and the basic, "holding of the hand" throughout the year before general admission.

Versan has recently entered a collaborative effort with sporting fraternities (funded by Sweden and USA) to access more athletic scholarship in soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field and cycling for those students interested. Versan will now be able to schedule the US scouts to view talented youths interested in those athletic scholarships.

The summer courses begin in May for graduate students and on June 25 for all other students. For those interested, do not hesitate to contact Versan at 754-7759 or 381-7205. You may e-mail the centre at versianedu2@yahoo.com.
