Sly and Robbie 'FREAKY TYPE', one of several new rap singles to appear on the local hip hop scene in recent times, is to be released on Thursday, June 7 by the Kingston-based Mixing Lab. The production is the first release of rap artistes G-Furnace and Assas'IN. A promotional video is to be available this summer.
Assas'IN is an American-born rapper of Jamaican parents who grew up in the United States and England. He now lives on the island.
G- Furnace is a Montegon-ian and brother of the Taxi Gang's recording artiste DJ Ace, who has been featured on several albums produced by Sly and Robbie.
The duo point out that 'Freaky Type' has been getting good airplay on KissFM in Craven County, North Carolina and on the Jamaican underground hip hop scene since January 2001.
Rapper Assas'IN and G- Furnace have performed at Doctor's Cave Beach Hotel, Asylum Nightclub, Little Pub, Risky Business, Aqua Sol, Fever Nightclub, Half-Way Tree Skateland, UWI and Club Klimax (Indies Pub and Grill). They are also teaming up with Rock-wildaz.com this summer on a pool party dubbed 'Skins', a high school pre-summer Jam on Saturday, July 7.
Rosh Music
The rappers are currently working with reggae recording label Rosh Music, which recently completed work on Junior Kelly's albums 'Rise', distributed by Greensleeves Records and 'Love So Nice', distributed by VP Records. In March the rappers were featured on rockwildaz website where they received 50,000 hits. Fans will be able to interact with the duo on the rap group website flip-syde.com which also features rapper/DJ Ace and Beje, the other dejaying member of the Flipsyde team.
