Gleaner picture inspires hope

THE EDITOR, Madam:

AT A time when the news from Jamaica almost always appears to be bad, I wish on behalf of Hope Partners to congratulate The Gleaner on its efforts to present balance in its reporting of the news. In particular we wish to commend your newspaper for the recent front page picture of two young men helping an apparently bewildered senior citizen to safety in the besieged Mountain View area.

This picture spoke eloquently of a community of normal, caring people, notwithstanding the headlines of violence and irrational killings which have plagued the area.

This picture was but one in a series which captured the reality that all is not lost in Jamaica and that despite the extreme brutality of the few, most Jamaicans continue to be caring and peace-seeking.

Thank you for helping us to keep our sanity. Keep up the good work.

I am, etc.,
