More than 200 persons from Linstead and surrounding communities were given an early Christmas gift, as the Lions Club of North St Catherine hosted its annual treat for the indigent on Sunday.

The day's activities included musical entertainment and the distribution of food.

The Lions Club of North St Catherine treat has been held for more than three decades.

Michael Blair, chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee at the organisation, said the club managed to allocate funds from its budget despite difficulties tied to the global economic slowdown.

"Amid the crippling economic condition, we could not leave you out, considering that God has set the example by giving His son at this season, so we in turn give of our substance to you the less fortunate," stated Blair.
