Seafood lovers will head to Little Ochi in Alligator Pond, Manchester on Sunday July 13 for the 10th anniversary of the Bigga Little Ochi Seafood Carnival.

This year's Gleaner-sponsored carnival promises to be bigger and better as organiser Everald 'Blackie' Christian will launch the Alligator Pond Education Fund at the event. The announcement was made last Saturday at the official launch of the event in Alligator Pond.

Mr Christian said he was establishing the education fund as a means of giving back to the community. The fund will give a full scholarship to one student from within the community to attend a Jamaican tertiary institution of his/her choice. Part of the proceeds of this year's carnival will go to the fund.

Another highlight of this year's carnival is the Bigga/Gleaner Seafood Cook-off Competition. (see below for details). On the day of the carnival, the four finalists will match their skills at Little Ochi and the winner will take home $50,000 plus two tickets to any Air Jamaica Caribbean destination.

Speaking at the launch, Wisynco's director of sales Halcott Holness described the carnival as a premier event in the island and one that made good sense to his company. "On the weekend leading up to the carnival, Wisynco will, through it's clients, offer specials on its many products to customers," he said. The company would also have several prizes and giveaways at the carnival.

Another added feature this year will be the provision of lighting by Power Services and secured parking in a field close to the venue. There will also be two guest chefs from The Bahamas and the Cayman Islands.

Other sponsors present were The Gleaner, Power 106, RJR, and Jamaica Biscuit Company with Excelsior Water Cracker. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires will provide entertainment.
