Gayle, Ramdin score centuries in stalemate
published: Tuesday | March 4, 2008

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad

(CMC):

Chris Gayle and Denesh Ramdin both posted centuries, but the fourth round encounter between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica finished in a draw at Queen's Park Oval yesterday.

Gayle struck an even, unbeaten century as Jamaica, chasing a victory target of 249, finished on 199 for six.

Earlier Ramdin, with a half-century under his belt from the first innings, scored an unbeaten 106 as Trinidad, resuming at their overnight 247 for six, declared their second innings at 336 for nine just before the lunch interval.

Jamaica collected six points from the contest and maintained their lead in the seven-team standings with 42 points, while T&T picked up three points to push their tally to 19 points.

Match petered out

Though the target was achievable, the visitors never took up the challenge and the match petered out into a stalemate.

The left-handed Gayle reached his century with three balls in the game remaining. It was his eighth regional hundred and his first against T&T.

The innings lasted 260 minutes and 182 balls and was decorated with 10 fours and one six.

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was the top bowler for T&T with two for 49.

Ramdin's century was his third at regional level and came in 258 minutes off 221 balls with seven fours.

The pint-size right-handed batsman, voted Man of the Match, reached his landmark with a four to the cover boun-dary off Gayle's bowling.

Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller was the top bowler with four for 81, while pacer Darren Powell had three for 71.
