LETTER OF THE DAY - Better expected of public sector
The Editor, Sir: All over the world, and particularly in big cities, the collection of solid waste is difficult to manage, and this requires a distinctive approach to management. In our own circumstance, we have seen where the traditional qualifications and skills have not worked in many instances...

Remember, I told you

The Editor, Sir: The combined grouping of associations who claimed that they represented the interest of the residents of the Portmore municipality has indeed had their day in court. The Privy Council delivered their ruling on December 3.

We need more PALS in schools

The Editor, Sir:

I must express condolences to the parents and relatives of the young schoolboy who lost his life at the hands of a schoolmate at Jamaica College during a fight. When I was in school, I engaged in a few fights myself, but they never included implements of death.

Morale at a new low

The Editor, Sir: The newspapers blare the headlines: "FORTY-SEVEN KILLED IN SEVEN DAYS", and fear grips the nation. In the evenings the streets remain deserted as city residents cower behind barricades, behind electrified gates, armed guards, canine sentinels and burglar bars.

Noteworthy

If the pen was indeed mightier than the sword, then based on the number of column inches that have been given to the subject, the problem of gun violence would have long been solved in Jamaica.
