Dwight Nelson, Gleaner WriterDespite the presence of military personnel at Clarendon hot spots such as Water Lane, Canaa Hayes and Palmers Cross over the past few days, the murder toll in the parish continues to rise.
The most recent killings occurred between Thursday night and yesterday morning in Hayes and Canaan Heights.
A man, identified as 26-year-old Damian Cunningham of Sunflower Avenue, Hayes, was murdered on the Hayes main road on Thursday night at approximately 9 o'clock, in the vicinity of the Vere Technical High School.
According to police reports, Cunningham was riding his motorbike in Jamdown Lane when he was shot and killed by unknown assailants. He died on the spot.
In Canaa less than 18 hours after a joint major operation between the military and the police, unknown assailants yesterday gunned down 30-year-old Dwight Dohman.
According to the police, residents heard explosions and summoned the police. On their arrival, the bullet-riddled body of Dohman was seen lying in a pool of blood behind one of the shops searched by the joint team yesterday.
The scene was processed by the Area Three scene-of-crime police and the body was taken to the morgue.
Superintendent in charge of Clarendon, Radcliff Lewis, told The Gleaner that an ongoing feud has been the root of the murders.
Residents in the community, speaking on condition of anonymity, have said they are fed up.
"We are tired of the amount of killing in the community; it's the fourth in less than one month," said one community member.
