Beating of children
published: Saturday | February 10, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

The picture that glared at me from the television was not fiction. A man was beating two children, forcing them to become human barricades on the busy Red Hills Road corridor of St. Andrew. The truamatised children were reeling from fear. Even more alarming was the fact that policemen were on hand and none attempted to remove the children and arrest the man.

Madam Children's Advocate and all the others who have the interest of our children at heart, this one cannot be dismissed. It is live and in living colour. Assault occasioning bodily harm and endangering the welfare of a child seem like just the beginning. Should this man be the father, the children should be removed forthwith from his care or lack of it.

I am not a legal luminary, but I know we have this one down pat, or do we?

Is this another case of law without teeth? This time, will justice be done and not only appear to be done? The sane parents, proxy parents and guardians wait. Do not disappoint us.

I am, etc.,

Sharon Williams
