THE COMMISSIONER of police this week announced that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and its security partners were ready for the ICC Cricket World Cup that gets under way in little more than a month.
During a press conference held on Wednesday, Commissioner Lucius Thomas said the tournament's specific plan has been completed and the standard operation procedures agreed on with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Security Directorate.
Security for Jamaica's part of the event lies mainly with the JCF and its various partners which include recognised local and international security companies.
The commissioner said the JCF and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) had completed a number of joint training and simulation exercises ranging from public order and critical incident command to disaster management over the past few months in preparation for the event.
Plans well advanced
"We are now well advanced in completing detailed plans for each element of tournament security including match day operations, VIP escort and protection, match venue security, crisis management, the opening ceremony and official hotel security," said Commissioner Thomas.
"The JCF is ready for the World Cup and no praise can be too high for our members who have brought us to this stage of readiness,"
he said.
