Muschett on course to keep title
published: Wednesday | January 24, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

DOUBLE CHAMPIONS Muschett High School remained firmly on course to retain their two titles in the ISSA/KFC Western High School Basketball League following victories over Cornwall College and William Knibb High School, respectively, in Monday's Under-16 and Under-19 semi-final games at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts.

In the Under-16 game, the Muschett juniors turned in a dazzling display as they made light work of their Cornwall College opponents, brushing them aside by a 58-39 margin, while the seniors, who were equally awesome, scored a comfortable 80-61 win over William Knibb.

Second Under-16 semi-final

Muschett's juniors will play William Knibb, who edged Maldon 67-65 in the second Under-16 semi-final, in the final while the seniors are slated to meet the winners of the second Under-19 semi-final between Herbert Morrison and Maldon, which was also slated for Monday, but was not played.

In their matchup against Cornwall College, the Muschett juniors won the first three quarters 16-6, 19-11 and 12-5 before conceding the final quarter 11-17 with victory virtually assured. Lamar Mitchell, with a game-high 28 points; and Jason Binns and Richard Clayton, who both got eight points, were the standout players for Muschett.

The Muschett seniors had things all their way against William Knibb, taking all four quarters - 16-10, 24-20, 19-16 and 20-14. Antoneil Watson, who shared a game-high 30 points with William Knibb's Grenelle Smith, was the top scorer for Muschett.
