Santos look to maintain pressure on Police
published: Saturday | January 13, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Former football kingpins Santos will be hoping to keep the pressure on league leaders Police National when they take on ninth place Meadhaven United in Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League action at Bell Chung Oval today, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Since their run-in three weeks ago with the lawmen, which saw them ending up on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline, the Merrion Road-based team have gone three games unbeaten.

However, today they will need some help from fifth place Mountain View who travel to Duhaney Park to take on the top placed Police team. Mountain View, who are coming off a 3-1 home win against Maverley-Hughenden, have now gone six games unbeaten.

JDF hoping for a win

Fresh from a huge win over Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) giants Arnett Gardens in Western Union Jackie Bell play, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), who have been struggling in the last couple of games, will face sixth-placed Cavalier. Recently bumped to third place the JDF will be hoping for a win to refuel their season.

Still hoping to lift themselves from the bottom of the league table Barbican FC will take on seventh place Bull Bay at the Barbican complex.

The home team will be looking for their first win of the season, while Bull Bay will be looking for a second straight win.

Still hoping to get some consistency a struggling 11th-place Maverley Hughenden will hope to move up the table with a win over eighth-placed Greenwich Town. Maverley-Hughenden were off to a good start to the season but have not been having the best run in recent times, losing their last four games in row.

MAJOR LEAGUE

In Major League action second-place Rockfort will host first-place Central Kingston in a top-of-the-table clash; third place Elletson Flats will take on fifth-placed University of Technology (UTech) and fourth place Olympic Gardens will travel to face bottom of the table Shortwood United. Tenth place Rae Town will host sixth place Seaview Gardens, while ninth place Real Mona travel to play seventh place Brown's Town. Cooreville Gardens, who are now in eighth place, will host Pembroke Hall. All games begin at 3:30 p.m.
