POINTE-A-PIERRE, Trinidad (CMC):
Both Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana were left disappointed after heavy overnight and morning showers forced the abandonment of the opening day of their second-round Carib Beer Series match at Guaracara Park yesterday.
The outfield was left soggy as a result and umpires Vincent Weekes and Terrence Birbal called off play at 1:15 p.m., after another heavy downpour just after the lunch interval.
Play will start at 9.30 a.m. today and run until 5.30 p.m.
Guyana, seeking precious points after their first- round match against the Windwards, finished in a no decision, were left frustrated.
"The weather is rather disappointing as we were hoping for maximum opportunities against the champions to salvage some points," coach Albert Smith told CMC Sports after play was abandoned.
Trinidad & Tobago manager, Omar Khan, was obviously disappointed at the missed chance to get valuable time in the middle, but said it was beyond anyone's control.
"We are disappointed at the weather which is totally out of our hands. We hope that play will start on time on Saturday, so that we can look for an outright win," said Khan, whose side lost their opening round match to Barbados last week.
