Wavell Hinds - FILENational cricket captain Wavell Hinds was impressive in last weekend's Carib Beer Series match against the Leeward Islands at St Mary's Park in St. Kitts, despite not being able to help Jamaica secure an outright win.
Many, however, believe his century in the first innings and unbeaten half century in the second innings prevented Jamaica from losing outright, and it was with this fact which makes him The Gleaner's Top Performer of the Week.
Bowled superbly
Despite not getting the Man-of-the-match, he edged out fast bowler Jerome Taylor, who bowled superbly while taking seven wickets in the match.
Set 256 to win, Jamaica went in search of quick runs, but found themselves on the back foot after wickets tumbled regularly. However, Hinds batted sensibly and held things together towards the end with Jamaica holding on for a draw.
Top score
Hinds, who scored an even hundred in the first innings, logged another top score of 50 not out off 67 balls with five boundaries.
In the first innings, he featured in a 143-run stand for the fifth wicket with vice-captain Tamar Lambert.
Hinds' innings came to an end when he attempted to cut fast bowler Gavin Tonge and spooned a catch to Shane Jeffers at point. He batted for 234 minutes, faced 142 balls and struck 10 fours and one six.
