Hyatt ... run out for 76 and Parchment ... scored 76.GROS ISLET, St. Lucia (CMC):
A late-afternoon burst orchestrated by all-rounder Darren Sammy sent Jamaica crashing after a sound start as Windward Islands clawed their way back on the opening day of their second-round Carib Beer Series match at the Beausejour Cricket Ground yesterday.
Sammy, who recently earned a recall to the West Indies team for their upcoming tour of India, grabbed two quick wickets with his medium pace as Jamaica stumbled to 231 for six at the close.
Cruising at 190 for one after being asked to bat first, Jamaica lost five wickets for 37 with Sammy finishing with two for 37.
Jamaica were comfortably placed on 204 for two at tea, thanks to a 153-run opening partnership between Brenton Parch-ment and Danza Hyatt who both struck 76, but were undermined in the last session.
Sammy struck when he had captain Wavell Hinds caught at second slip by his opposing number Rawle Lewis, after being drawn into an attacking stroke.
Drop Catch
In his next over, Sammy had the patient Lorenzo Ingram caught at the wicket by Junior Murray for 21. Murray had earlier failed to hold on to a regulation catch off the same batsman when he was on 19 from the bowling of the unfortunate Jean Paul.
Left-arm slow bowler Denis George then trapped Dave Bernard Jr. lbw without scoring, driving over a full ball to leave Jamaica 206 for five.
Tamar Lambert was joined by Carlton Baugh Jr., and the two tried to steady the innings but Lambert went lbw for 15 to a Lewis googly near the close of play after having survived an appeal for a catch by Lewis at slip off George in the previous over.
Earlier, Parchment and Hyatt had threatened to make Windwards captain Lewis pay for sending Jamaica in when they reached 89 without loss at lunch.
By tea they had progressed to 171 for one with Parchment being the batsman out, caught by Devon Smith at slip off medium pacer Deighton Butler.
Parchment struck 10 elegant fours while facing 137 balls in an innings lasting 200 minutes. His only blemish came when left-arm orthodox spinner Dennis George failed to hold a return catch when the Jamaican opener was 58.
Hyatt's innings spanned 205 balls and 269 minutes and included five fours and a six but was ended via the run-out route in a mix-up with Ingram.
