The Editor, Sir:
It was midday on Wednesday when my wife and I drove downtown to honour an appointment. Our journey took us past the National Heroes Park, and we were astonished to see a large section of our heroes' final resting place transformed into a parking lot utilised by employees and patrons of the Ministry of Finance.
This begged me to ask the question, have we as a nation no regard for our heroes? We at least owe it to them to ensure that the surroundings of their final resting place are kept clean and inviting.
I was expecting that with a lady as the head of the government at least she should ensure that a level of cleanliness is maintained in the country in general, and at those places that hold our national icons, in particular.
I am also calling on Mayor Desmond McKenzie to take a look at the National Heroes Park.
With Cricket World Cup around the bend, this would be a prime opportunity for us to show the world the place where our founding fathers and mother are resting.
However, with the park in its present state, I do hope that no one makes the 'grave' mistake and take any of our visitors to our island to this section of the city.
I am, therefore, calling on Sister P and Brother Desmond to unite and beautify the resting place of our founding fathers and mother.
I am, etc.,
