If the initial trends of the new roots play Bashment Granny are anything to go by, some records (now held by More Passa Passa) could be broken eventually.
Bashment Granny, written by Garfield 'Movie Star' Reid and directed by Stede 'Jookie Jam' Flash, has generated more public discussions than any other in its opening weeks.
The actors are all seasoned campaigners except for Keith Ramsay and Dainty Bellafonte. While Bellafonte is a relative newcomer to the public, Ramsay has already been creating waves via the Comedy Bus which showcases
rising comedy stars. His performance in Bashment Granny is simply awesome. He is definitely the new theatre find.
The rest of the cast is made up of Maxwell 'Mamaman' Grant, Garfield Reid, Stede Flash, Patrick Smith and Ruth Samuels. Grant, Reid and Flash seemed to have carried over their splendid forms from More Passa Passa. Garfield is still Bad Boy Trevor in Bashment Granny as he was in More Passa Passa. A troublemaker and womaniser, Trevor goes around conning mostly grown women who are in the position to maintain him. He falls in love with Angel (played by Dainty Bellafonte) who is pressuring him into buying her a $2.5 million SUV. As a result, he calls his real woman Miss P (played by Ruth Samuels) and lies about his grandmother, saying she has a serious heart condition, and requests US$100,000 for the remedial exercise.
There was no grandmother, however, and Trevor's father Mr. Bashment (played by Grant) dresses up as an old lady to collect the money. He does, hides it and it is found by Jooky Jam (who is also Mr. Bashment's son). Jooky (a pilot) is falling in love with Angel too so he gives her the money. Angel feels sorry for the ailing old lady (Granny Bashment) and gives it to her.
Ramsay is the sissy in the play. He is called James Bones (an initiation of Bond) and Shebada as well. He carries news and labrishes in a manner that the audience cannot help laughing at incessantly.
Patrick Smith plays Officer Duffodil (a policeman) who does more chatting than investigating. He often behaves like a man with no sense (or fool-fool as they say in Jamaica).
In the end Angel turns out to be an FBI agent and carts everybody off to jail, except the policeman who works in tandem with her.
