BUSINESS AND consumer confidence has climbed to its highest level in five years based on the improved prospects for growth in the economy, according to the latest survey of business and consumer confidence.
The Business and Consumer Confidence Indices for the first quarter of 2006 state that Jamaicans, in the January-March period, felt that the prospects for the year to come would meet or exceed expectations. This, as more Jamaican consumers plan to buy homes and expressed the expectation that their standard of living would improve significantly.
However, the optimism in the business community was more cautious, with a conservative view about the likely growth in profitability, according to the survey conducted by Professor Richard Curtin, head of the Survey Research Centre at the University of Michigan.
