SOUTHERN CONFERENCE Champions St. Catherine High will attempt to get their second straight win of the KFC/ISSA high schools National Basketball Champion-ships when they travel to the MoBay Cricket Club to face Western Conference runners-up Maldon at 3:00 p.m. today.
Still on a high from a thrilling victory over Wolmer's Boys in the urban finals, the prospect of a trophy double is still very much a reality for a team which went through to the semi-finals on goal difference. Already off to a good start with a 53-48 victory over Belair in their first game, a win for the team today against Maldon will see them safely through to the quarter-final round.
While recognising the fact that Maldon was not the top team in their division, St. Catherine coach Lennox Lindo insists that his team will not take them lightly.
"They finished runner-up in their zone which means they are not the top team in their division. However, it is basketball and anything can happen on a given day. We want to go out their and dominate," he said.
"Even though we won against Belair I was not pleased with the way we played, and we want to give a much better showing today," he added.
Jamaica College will look to rebound from a lacklustre start when they take on Port Antonio at the National Stadium. Port Antonio and Jamaica College fell victims to a rampant Old Harbour, both losing by very impressive margins.
In Under 16 play Southern Conference top guns Calabar will also travel to MoBay to face Maldon, who were also runner-up in the Northern Conference. In the day's other game central division champions Manchester will go for their first win of the championship round when they face Ocho Rios.
