LUSCIOUS LIPS
published: Monday | March 20, 2006

Lips should be lined before colour is applied. - CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS

OUR LIPS frame our smiles. Picture a painting with a great frame. The lips do the same by enhancing the smile and brightening our face.

No matter what shape your lips have, there are ways to play on them to bring about a sexy pout. It is all in the application of lip liners, lipsticks and lip glosses. Here are some tips you can try:

THE PREP STEP.

First - condition the lips with a lip balm to allow for smooth and easy application.

THE LINER TRICK

For full lips, reduce their look by applying a liner that is of a darker shade. Colours such as deep medium burgundy, dark medium brown. With liner in hand, line the inner part of the lip line, starting with the V at the centre of your top lip. Lining the inner part your lips will make the lip line appear thicker so that the actual size is reduced.

For thin lips, enhance the thickness by applying a liner that is slightly darker, or the same shade of the lip colour that you have chosen. The trick is to line the lips carrying the liner slightly over your natural lip line; what this will do is create an illusion of fullness and give you more space to apply your lip colour.

For fairly average lips, line them, however try not to make it too thick. After lining, smear lip liner with a brush or by rubbing lips together so that the line is not harsh and blends well with lip colour.

Lip liners can also make lipstick to last much longer just by simply applying it to the entire lip. This will allow the lip colour to adhere leaving a lasting impression. Liners also prevent the lip colour from bleeding as they lock the colour in.

COLOUR THEM BEAUTIFUL

There are a wide range of lip colours available on the market, however we have to aim to find those that fit the shape of our lips and complexion. For women with full lips, burgundys, deep reds, mauve and generally darker shades minimise and enhance.

For women with thin lips, bolder but lighter and brighter colours tend to maximise. For women with average sized lips, luckily you can play with a wider range of colours, but still aim for colours that suit your complexion. Never be afraid to mix your lip colours. Many blends can be achieved by doing so. You can also add a little gold/bronze, pink or peach to the inner part of the lip blending it well to create a sexy pouty lip.
