THE ST. CATHERINE police confirmed earlier this week that there has been a spate of robberies committed against taxi operators in the Eltham View area of Spanish Town.
Investigations by The Gleaner reveal that several taxi men were robbed in the community.
The last robbery occurred on December 23 when a 42-year-old taxi operator got up at 5:30 a.m to start plying his route, only to be accosted by three armed men who robbed him of all the money.
This is an emerging pattern in the Elthan View community, and several such robberies have taken place with alarming frequency since the start of December.
In fact, preliminary reports suggest that more than 10 taxi men have been robbed by three men who police theorise have been operating in the community.
As a result of the incessant robberies, commuters have been finding it difficult to get vehicles to travel to Eltham View late in the night as taxi operators have expressed great fears about going into the community.
When The Gleaner checked with the Spanish Town police, detective divisional inspector Derrick Champagnie confirmed that the police have received reports of the robberies and have implemented strategies to deal with the perpetrators.
