2006 year for youth in Clarendon - MP Henry
published: Wednesday | December 28, 2005

HENRY

CENTRAL CLARENDON Member of Parliament, Mike Henry, has vowed to improve sections of his constituency in 2006 with a slate of ambitious projects.

According to Mr. Henry, who has represented residents in the area for 26 years, youth in Clarendon will be the main beneficiaries if his plans materialise.

"There's a sense of a lack of opportunity among young people and that has led to a sense of rebellion," Mr. Henry told The Gleaner last week. "The aim is to give them hope and try and guide them."

He said he is determined to get his plans off the ground by seeking independent funding.

"I have a lot of plans that I would like to put in place and I'm going to go overseas and seek funding on my own, since there seems to be an approach by Government not to support a number of these things because of an inability to fund them," Mr. Henry reasoned.

He did not say from where this funding would come.

VERNAMFIELD PLANS

Transforming the Vernamfield motor track into an airport is among the Jamaica Labour Party MP's main projects. He said this would benefit Jamaicans and visitors living or vacationing on the south coast.

Another project, in tandem with the Jamalco bauxite company, is to develop the Milk River mineral bath. This too, he said, would be tourism based.

Mr. Henry also plans to complete the Herb McKenley Stadium in May Pen, in honour of the legendary Jamaican athlete.

"This would bring a sense of history to Central Clarendon and help bring half a million to a million people over a year to the area," he said. "This would give economic opportunities as a spin-off to the development."
