THE MASSACRE didn't happen. Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) 'A' were expected to butcher Cable & Wireless (C&W) 'A' when they met in the Business House Senior League yesterday. However, the latter put on a surprise performance despite their 48-31 loss.

"We really surprised them (BNS). We had them for a while but they were the more experienced team and it showed in their game. A little bit of nerves set in on our part but we played extremely well under the circumstances.

"The ladies played even much better than I had expected them to," said C&W's coach Dalton Hinds.

With captain and the team's main shooter Jackie Doig out due to injury, C&W were not expected to do as well as they did but teamwork and the discipline of sticking to the game plan was what, Hinds said, did the trick.

MOTIVATIONAL TALK

"The attacking combination that we played today was never experimented with before and seeing how they managed to perform so well makes me feel really proud. We had a motivational talk prior to the game and the team showed a commitment to stick together regardless of the result.

"Had Jackie been there it would have been a different situation, but I'm still happy with the result," he said.

In the early stages the two teams were level 6-6 but experienced BNS soon pulled away and stayed ahead of the game to the end.

BNS 'A', meanwhile, continue to sit pretty at the top of the standings with a clean win record.

Defending Senior League champions Jamaica Broilers are second, losing only one game to date. Broilers registered the biggest win in yesterday's round of games, thrashing Air Jamaica 75-23.

Newcomers Mainland International registered yet another victory when they won their Intermediate match 33-22 over Carreras. Courts beat Jamaica Money Market Brokers 24-18 in the other Intermediate match.

In the preceding games National Water Commission 'A' edged Heart 28-27, Churches beat Life of Jamaica 16-10, NEM defeated Pegasus 34-16 while NWC 'B' stopped First Life 22-17.

Divisional league action continues tomorrow at the same venue with another eight games.
