Seba, Village poised for all out attack
published: Wednesday | September 24, 2003

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU: FORMER CHAMPIONS Seba United will make the half-hour trip to Elleston Wakeland Community Centre in Falmouth this afternoon to face Village in a Wray & Nephew National Premier League (NPL) western derby, starting at 3:30p.m.

While this is only the third set of matches in the first round, both camps are taking the game seriously and expect a tough game.

Both teams are coming off good wins over the weekend, Seba trouncing Arnett Gardens 4-0 at home while Village bounced back form a home loss to tag Constant Spring 1-0 away.

The wins have elevated their vibe and today's game should be an exciting one from the start.

BIG WIN

Seba's big win earned them a day off from training on Monday but coach Everton Tomlinson said they would be back yesterday afternoon to do some "light work" and get into a mood for today's game.

Seba wont settle for just one goal Tomlinson told the Gleaner.

"We are definitely going for three or more goals. The players showed in the Arnett game they were on target and we want to continue in this fashion."

He said: "From what I hear of the Village team they have a few players who used to be here (at Seba) so there won't be many surprises."

A pre-season 1-0 loss to Village will not perturb Tomlinson much as he said that while he watched the game, as he was not involved in the team then, "this is a new Seba team and the players are very confident".

He might have one problem, selecting his final team. Glenworth Benjamin, who replaced Keniel Moodie who was suspended after picking up a red card in the first game, scored in the second minute on Sunday and could retain his place tomorrow.

Lloyd Williams, who was promoted to the head job at Village in the absence of Marvin Tate who is studying, said his charges are looking forward to the game. Williams said they would be "working on their aggression" especially in midfield and hoping to win all the 50-50 balls.

"It will be all out attack from the start," he said, adding that national player Fabian Dawkins will make his first start this season after recovering from an injury that relegated him to spot duty in the last game.

Dawkins came off the bench to set up Teofore Bennett's winner at Constant Spring and Williams is hoping he will strengthen the midfield along with Shane Crawford, Christopher Dawes and Delvano Brown. Bennett and Daniel Ricketts Williams said would start as the forwards.
